What Happens If A Dose Of Insulin Is Missed?

This is a very common question that is asked quite often by a large number of individuals that suffer from the condition known as diabetes at some point in their lifetime. The answer however is not all that easy to give and the answer can also be different for each individual person as every person’s system is very different from one person to the next. Generally if only one or two hours has passed since your missed dose of insulin was due it is usually ok to go ahead and administer the missed dose. However, there are a few factors that will need to be considered first. A lower dose may need to be given and there are several reasons that can affect this decision, such as if your normal bedtime is going to be interrupted and you will be staying up much later than what is normal for you. Other factors will also need to be considered, which would include the amount of foods that you consumed and the amount of exercise that you were involved in. A rule that many people will generally go by is if the injection that was missed is three hours or later, then the normal dosage you usually take will need to be reduced. There are times when an individual will forget and miss the injection that they normally take at bedtime can usually be taken the next morning, but you will only need to take approximately ½ of the normal dosage amount.
